Naples, Florida · Collier County

Health insurance in Naples.

Collier County has the highest median household income of Florida's four largest metros and, at the same time, the highest share of uninsured working-age adults. Both of those facts have the same cause.

The wealthiest county with the biggest coverage hole

Collier's median household income is $90,045 — the highest of Florida's four largest metros. And 22.9% of its working-age adults have no health coverage, against 15.5% statewide. Among Hispanic and Latino residents that figure reaches 30%.

Those two numbers are not a contradiction. Collier is a county of extremes: coastal retirees and a service, hospitality and construction workforce that keeps the place running. Construction alone accounts for roughly 20,400 jobs here — a trade that runs overwhelmingly on 1099 income with no benefits attached. Seasonal population swings add about 20% more people at peak.

It is also the hardest county of the four to shop in. Only five companies sell on-exchange individual plans in Collier for 2026, fewer than half the number available in Broward, and the average Silver premium is $750 a month — the highest of the four metros and $119 more than Tampa. With that little choice and that much money at stake, picking wrong is expensive.

Fewer options makes the comparison more important, not less

When a county has eleven carriers there is usually a plan that fits by accident. With five, the right answer has to be found deliberately — and the wrong one costs $750 a month.

Hospitals and networks in Naples

The single most common regret in health insurance is a plan that did not include a doctor or hospital someone was already using. This is where we start, not where we finish.

NCH (Naples Comprehensive Health)

NCH Baker and NCH North Naples, 713 beds between them, holding roughly 60% inpatient market share in its primary service area.

Physicians Regional Healthcare System

357 staffed beds across three Collier locations — the county's main alternative to NCH.

Lee Health

In neighbouring Lee County, and the regional referral centre for a great deal of specialty care Collier residents end up needing.

Why this matters here

A two-system county means a narrow-network plan is materially riskier in Naples than in Miami or Fort Lauderdale. There is no third system to fall back on.

Who we work with

Who we help in Naples

Pre-Medicare retirees

More than a third of Collier is 65 or over, which means a large population retiring early and needing to bridge to Medicare. Those years are the most expensive coverage anyone ever buys, and the most worth getting right.

Construction and trades

Roughly 20,400 construction jobs in a county where most of that work is 1099. Occupational accident cover is not health insurance, and finding that out during a hospital admission is a bad way to learn it.

Seasonal residents

If you split the year between Naples and somewhere north, your plan needs to work in both places. That is a network question with a real answer, and it rules out most of what looks cheapest.

Working with a local broker in Naples

Saintellus Health Advisory is an independent agency based in Fort Lauderdale and licensed across 31+ states. Independent means we are not tied to one carrier: we compare 5 on-exchange companies in Collier County alongside private off-exchange plans, employer options and COBRA, then tell you plainly which one fits.

There is no fee for that. The carrier compensates the advisor when someone enrolls, and that compensation is already built into the plan’s filed rate — your premium is identical whether you enroll with us, on your own, or through another agent. What you get for using one is somebody who has read the network directory.

Open enrollment for 2027 coverage runs November 1, 2026 through January 15, 2027, with December 15, 2026 the deadline for coverage starting January 1. Outside that window you need a qualifying life event — losing job coverage, moving, marriage, a birth — and those have deadlines of their own, usually 60 days.

Common questions about health insurance in Naples

Why is health insurance so expensive in Naples?

Collier is rating area 11, and for the 2026 plan year state regulators put the average Silver premium for a 28-year-old earning $35,000 at $750 a month before subsidies — the highest of Florida's four largest metros. Fewer competing carriers, a concentrated hospital market and higher local provider costs all contribute.

Which carriers sell health plans in Collier County?

Five companies sell on-exchange individual plans in Collier for the 2026 plan year and six sell off-exchange, per the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation. That is fewer than half of what is available in Broward. Cigna does not sell individual plans in Collier for 2026.

I am retiring before 65. What are my options in Naples?

The years between an employer plan ending and Medicare beginning are the most expensive coverage most people ever buy, and Collier is the most expensive of Florida's big metros to buy them in. Marketplace plans, private options and COBRA all deserve a look, and the right answer often depends on how you draw income in those years — which is worth modelling before you retire, not after.

I spend part of the year up north. Will my plan work there?

Only if you choose for it. Most of the cheapest plans in Collier are HMOs that cover emergencies and nothing else outside their service area. If you split the year, that has to be built into the plan choice from the start. Tell us where you spend your time and we will filter for it.

Where these numbers come from

Premium and carrier figures: Florida Office of Insurance Regulation, 2026 plan year tables. Population, income and uninsured figures: U.S. Census QuickFacts, Collier County (ACS 2020–2024 5-year estimates). Statewide enrollment: KFF Marketplace plan selections, 2026. Medicaid eligibility thresholds: KFF, January 2026. Premium figures describe average silver plan, single adult age 28 earning $35,000 a year, 2026 plan year and are a reference point, not a quote.
